    and also on some sizes, when the burger is pressed, the main menu covers the “burger” links
    so the burger needs to be on top of the main menu all the time

    having the burger on desktop too will solve this problem
    (the links are not working, only the My account link)

    Hi,

    Making the burger show on the desktop is not possible. this will require customization of the theme, witch is not included in the support policies.

    Also the top-nav links are not working because i think you have added the My account link from coding the child theme. (or how have you added it?)

    Remove the My Account link from your child theme and add it in the top nav menu in Appearance > menus.
